As the Director of Technology at the Red Hook Initiative, Tony Schloss leadsRHI’s work in partnering with local and city technology initiatives to support the growth of the RedHook community and its residents. Tony originally began as a volunteer at RHI in 2007, establishing RHI Radio, youth Internet radio program. Eventually coming on board as part time staff and then full time after selling his Red Hook based audio recording studio, Tony incorporated media production work at all levels of RHI programming and along with other youth media organizations, founded the annual NYC Digital Waves Youth Media Festival.  While at RHI, Tony helped to launch the Community Change Workers Media Team, Social Justice Fellows, RHI Digital Stewards and the Red Hook WIFI project. As a result of his work on RHI’s free wireless network, Tony has been invited to the White House and is a member of Mayor DiBlasio’s Broadband Task Force. Prior to his work with RHI, Tony taught in private and public New York City schools including primary, junior high and high school in addition to his music production career. Tony holds a Bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and earned his Master’s degree in the Learning, Design and Technology Program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Education.

Alex Coles is a recent graduate of Coastal Carolina University with a degree in Communication and New Media & Digital Culture. As a Red Hook resident he has been involved with RHI since he was 14. Alex’s first job was being a tree planter. RHI has helped Alex get into college and worked with him while he was in college. Alex feels that it’s his time to give back to the community that gave him so much. Alex has been working with the digital stewards teaching them graphic design and computer programming. Alex’s vision l is to expand the minds of each digital steward member he talks too. Alex wants to show them that there is a great big world out there. “For me life is an ongoing learning and intellectual challenge. In my eyes success is achieving that perfect combo of cool, rational logic and innovative thinking.”
